About GED

GED stands for General Educational Development. It is a high school equivalency credential that individuals can earn if they did not complete their traditional high school education.   1. The GED test consists of four topic tests: Reasoning Through Language Arts (which includes Reading and Writing), Mathematical Reasoning, Social Studies, and Science.

Residency: You must be a resident of the state where you want to take the GED test.

GED Exam Outline

GED exam covers 4 subjects :

Reasoning Through Language Arts:

This subject has two parts: writing and reading. It lasts for a total of 150 minutes, with 45 minutes dedicated to writing a complete essay. There is also a 10-minute break included in this section.

The purpose of this section is to assess your skills in:

– Explaining, understanding, and correctly answering questions based on the given text.

– Clear writing, attentive reading, and understanding written passages.

– Using evidence to support your arguments.

– Demonstrating basic English skills necessary for college or future employment.

Math:

The math part of the GED test focuses on two main subjects: algebra and mathematical quantities.

Algebra makes up 55 percent of the test, while problem-solving with numbers makes up 45 percent. During the test, you can use TI-30XS scientific calculator or a digital calculator, but you need to bring the scientific calculator yourself. You will get total 115 minutes for this test.

Science:

In the science part of the test, you will have 90 minutes to complete it. There will be 2 short answer questions, each taking about 10 minutes to answer. You can use a TI-30XS calculator.

This section mainly covers Earth and Space (20%), Physical Science (40%), and Life Science (40%).

It measures:

–  Your skill in explaining, understanding, and answering questions about science-related texts.

–  Your ability to solve problems in science-related scenarios.

Social Studies:

The social studies part of the GED measures your understanding of basic social studies concepts and how they apply to the real world. There are a total of 50 questions, covering four main topics: economics(15%), civics(50%), geography(15%), and US history(20%).

You will get 70 minutes to complete this test.

 

GED Question Type:

The GED test has different question formats such as :

– Multiple-choice questions

Minimum Score To Pass GED :

To earn a GED certificate, applicants must receive a score of at least 145 out of 200 points on each of the four sections. There is no specific average score needed for all four sections combined.

To meet the minimum score standards, you must achieve the following:

– Score at least 145 points to pass the exam.

– Earn a score of 165 or higher on any subject to be considered GED College Ready.

– Obtain a score of 175 or higher to be GED College Ready and earn credit in that subject.
