Positions And Duties In Student Council

However, being a part of the council is more than just attending meetings; it involves taking on specific responsibilities and roles. Being on the student council allows you to develop leadership skills, work as a team, and experience democracy in action. Take the time to explore these opportunities – it could be your call to lead.

In this article, I will explain the various roles and responsibilities within the student council.

1. Advisers

The faculty members in the student council have the role of advisers. Their main purpose is to guide and support the students in their council positions. Additionally, the advisers make sure that the students stay within their boundaries of authority. They strive to empower the council members as much as possible, so that they feel their council is making a meaningful impact.

2. President

  • Serve as a representative for the student body at school district and civic events, as well as other meetings.
  • Schedule Student Council meetings as needed.
  • Arrange and oversee Leadership Forums.
  • Keep the Junior Forum Chair updated on meeting details.
  • Lead and maintain order during all Student Council meetings.
  • Serve as a positive example for all students.
  • Supervise and ensure the effective functioning of the elected student body .
  • Promote cooperation and positive relationships among Student Council members.
  • Display enthusiasm and capability to inspire and maintain interest in the Student Council.

3. Vice President

  • In the event that the President is not available, take on all responsibilities of the President
  • Carry out all assigned tasks given by the President or the Student Council
  • Offer assistance with Presidential duties when needed
  • Set a great example for all students to look up to Promote teamwork and positive relationships among all members of the Student Council
  • Frequently in charge of guiding committees

4. Secretary

  • Keep written records of all Student Council Meetings and ensure they are organized and updated.
  • Handle all communication for the Student Council, both incoming and outgoing.
  • Foster a positive and cooperative environment among all members of the Student Council.
  • Publicize and support the various activities organized by the Student Council.
  • Manage and organize files related to the student body.
  • Create meeting agendas for the Student Council.
  • Assist student body officers and committee chairpersons by typing any necessary materials.
  • Authorize purchase orders by signing them.

5. Treasurer

  • Manage the financial records for the Student Council.
  • Create and oversee the budget for the Student Council.
  • Promote teamwork and positive relationships among all members of the Student Council.
  • Coordinate the creation of the yearly budget.
  • Present the proposed budget to the Student Council for approval.
  • Prepare financial reports for Student Council meetings.
  • Assist the bookkeeper with sales when needed.
  • Organize fundraising projects for the student body.
  • Authorize all purchase orders.

6. Historian

  • Prepare the necessary materials for the Student Council Scrapbook.
  • Take responsibility for finishing the scrapbook.
  • Keep a collection of materials relating to school activities.
  • Ensure that photographs are taken of all activities.
  • Organize efforts for other historical presentations.

7. Parliamentarian

  • Give guidance on matters regarding parliamentary procedure
  • Inform the Council members about effective parliamentary practices

8.  Committee Chairperson

  • Create and organize committees by inviting eligible students to join.
  • Lead all committee meetings and fulfill all responsibilities associated with the committees.
  • Provide updates on the decisions and activities of the committees to the Student Council.

9. Student Welfare Committee Chair

  • Examine and understand the well-being of students.
  • Strive for better well-being for all students in the school
  • Plan and coordinate events and activities that enhance the well-being of all students in the school

10. Activities and Sports Committee Chair

  • Encourage school athletic events and student participation in sports
  • Help with the planning and execution of school athletic events when needed
  • Organize and supervise sports competitions between different houses and grade levels, including lunchtime sports when suitable.

11. Community Support Committee Chair

  • Builds a strong, optimistic, and helpful connection with the nearby community.
  • Familiarize students with the need of local community
  • Inspire students to provide assistance and participate in community service.

12. Environment Committee Chair

  • Make efforts to enhance the school and global environment in different ways.
  • Take charge of organizing and guiding group efforts to enhance and sustain the cleanliness and overall condition of the school

In a nutshell, student council positions are like superheroes for our school. From the president who takes the lead to the grade representatives who ensure everyone’s voice is heard, each position plays a crucial role in making our school amazing. These positions are not just fancy titles, they are actual responsibilities that bring us together, empower our voices, and transform our school into an incredibly cool place where everyone feels included and enjoys themselves
